Our Editorial Mission

Trucking Record is committed to democratizing access to federal transportation safety data. Our editorial mission is to present accurate, unbiased, and actionable information that empowers users to make informed decisions about motor carrier safety.

Core Principle: We believe that public safety information should be freely accessible, clearly presented, and never influenced by commercial interests.

Data Sourcing Standards

All carrier safety data displayed on Trucking Record is sourced from official federal databases:

Primary Sources

  • - FMCSA SAFER System
  • - Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS)
  • - NHTSA FARS Database
  • - Bureau of Transportation Statistics

Data Integrity Rules

  • - No alteration of source data
  • - Clear attribution to federal sources
  • - Regular synchronization with official databases
  • - Transparent update timestamps

Content Quality Standards

All original content published on Trucking Record adheres to the following quality standards:

Accuracy

  • All facts are verified against primary sources before publication
  • Statistics and data points include source citations
  • Errors are corrected promptly with transparent correction notices
  • Claims distinguish between verified facts and analysis/opinions

Objectivity

  • Content presents information without bias toward any carrier or entity
  • Multiple perspectives are represented when covering complex topics
  • Opinions are clearly labeled as such
  • We do not accept payment for favorable coverage

Clarity

  • Technical terms are explained for general audiences
  • Content is organized logically with clear headings
  • Complex data is presented with visual aids where appropriate
  • Legal and regulatory jargon is translated into plain language

Proprietary Analysis Methodology

In addition to raw federal data, Trucking Record provides proprietary analysis tools including the Trucking Record Safety Score. Our methodology:

  • Is documented and transparent (see our About page)
  • Is clearly labeled as our own analysis, not official government ratings
  • Uses consistent algorithms applied equally to all carriers
  • Is not influenced by advertising or commercial relationships

Important: Our proprietary Safety Score is designed to help users interpret complex federal data. It is not an official rating and should be used in conjunction with verification from official FMCSA sources.

Corrections & Updates Policy

We are committed to accuracy and will promptly correct errors:

Correction Process

  1. 1. Report: Errors can be reported via contact@truckingrecord.com
  2. 2. Verify: We investigate all reported inaccuracies against source data
  3. 3. Correct: Verified errors are corrected with clear notation
  4. 4. Notify: Significant corrections are noted with date and description

Note: Since carrier data originates from federal databases, corrections to that data must typically be made at the source (FMCSA). We can update our display once official records are corrected.
