Data Integrity Commitment
Our platform syncs directly with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) SAFER System and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS). We do not alter or manipulate raw safety records.

Data Sources
FMCSA SAFER System
Primary carrier data including registration status, safety ratings, fleet size, crash history, inspection results, and out-of-service rates. This data is sourced from the Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS) and reflects the 24-month federal monitoring period.
NHTSA FARS Database
State-level traffic fatality statistics from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System, including total fatalities, truck-involved crashes, year-over-year trends, and population-adjusted rates. FARS provides a census of fatal motor vehicle crashes in the United States.
Bureau of Economic Analysis
State GDP data used to provide economic context for freight transportation analysis. This helps users understand the relative importance of trucking infrastructure to each state's economy.
Bureau of Labor Statistics
Trucking employment statistics from NAICS code 484 (Truck Transportation) used to contextualize industry employment and workforce distribution across states.
Safety Score Calculation
The Trucking Record Safety Score is a proprietary metric designed to help non-experts quickly assess relative carrier safety performance. The algorithm considers multiple factors:
- Crash History: Total crashes, fatal crashes, injury crashes, and tow-away incidents within the monitoring period
- Fleet Size Normalization: Crashes are evaluated relative to fleet size to ensure fair comparisons between carriers of different scales
- Safety Rating: Official FMCSA safety ratings (Satisfactory, Conditional, Unsatisfactory) factor into the overall score
- Severity Weighting: Fatal and injury crashes receive higher weights than property-damage-only incidents
Scores range from 0 to 100, with higher scores indicating better safety performance. The national benchmark crash rate (0.15 crashes per power unit) is used as the reference point for risk classification.
